Vase "True Nautilus"

The Nautilus Shell that is smooth on the outside is the more familiar form that we all know. This Nautilus is a close relative, but with the dynamic swirl pattern of growth on the outside of the form. This particular detail gives the porcelain bisque form focus and interest. This vase with the Paper Nautilus captured on a classical base form is a far cry from its original life in the sea. The Paper Nautilus is an egg case, not technically a shell, and floats on the surface of the sea carrying the eggs of the next generation of octopi. Paper thin, the emerging circular form is dynamic and very, very strong. This form makes a lovely and beautiful vase. It frames and holds flowers for a distinctive and stylish presentation. Margaret likes to use this vase and the others variations of the shell vases to arrange shell and coral bouquets.
